Information about this lot
Why is this lot here?
We posted this lot because:
This land is being stewarded by the following group:
emmy and chris,
since this a greenthumb garden, contact the outreach coordinator who can put you in touch with the membership--
Kathleen Alvey, Brooklyn Outreach Coordinator CB 1, CB 2, CB 6, CB 7, CB 10, CB 11
I would love to be a part of this community garden. What steps must I take to do so?
Please contact me at email@example.com
Thank you :)
Hey land stewards in district 34!
Your council member, Antonio Reynoso, will be saying nice things about your spaces at our event on Thursday evening. Please let me know if you'd like me to add you or other members of your group to the guest list. It would be great to see lots of your faces in the room. Here's what Antonio has agreed to speak about:
We'd love to have him attend and would really love to have him talk about the reclamations in his district: Grand Street Community Garden, Keap Fourth Community Garden, Evergreen Lots, and the brand-new 1278 Myrtle Community Garden. Three of these four former vacant lots are in the process of or have already been transferred to the Parks Department as permanently protected open space.
If you send me photos, we'll project those too!

Anusha from the Green Light District has been having an exchange with the GreenThumb office about this lot on behalf of the neighbors. Thanks for your role in this, Anusha!
We will have our letter from the community board early next week! Let me know what the timeline will look like after that, as Maria is eager to get gardening and the growing season is well underway.
Also, I had a great meeting/site visit with one of Greenthumb's interns, Annelise - I am cc'ing her in the hopes that she can assist in speeding this process along.

The letters of support were included (as scanned copies) in the document I just sent you. We mailed the originals to GreenThumb in March! So, they should be around your office somewhere...
Let me know if you need anything else! Looking forward to hearing what HPD says. Maria Cay had spoken with them sometime this winter, and they told her to contact GreenThumb - which seems to be a good indication that they don't have any immediate plans for the site.

When you are ready also send us the support letters from the following individuals as indicated on your cover letter to Edie:
Letters of Support from El Puente; Council Member Diana Reyna; NYS Assemblymen Vito Lopez; Borough President Mark Markowitz and very recently from CB1.
We are now going to ask HPD to confirm the availability of the land and will let you know what the next steps will be providing we get a positive response from HPD. Otherwise, we will not be able to proceed. Good luck and thank you for reaching out to us. For GreenThumb,

Subject: Grand Street Community Garden
Thank you for speaking earlier today. Attached is a copy of the application that was submitted in March by Maria Cay for the HPD site at 239 Grand Street in Brooklyn. I was mistaken - the CB 1 letter of support was not included in this application - but we can get it to you soon.
Please give me a call if you have any questions, and I'll do my best to answer or direct them to Maria. We assisted her in putting together the application, as her English and computer skills are limited, but she has a great group of gardeners that is ready to go as soon as they can get access! She also has been a community garden coordinator through GreenThumb in the past, so she is familiar with the system.
We heard from the Green Light District Program Director at El Puente that a Green Thumb application has been submitted for this lot!
