Government Agency

New York City Police Department (public)
Contact: Jamie Kani, Facilities Management Division (646-610-7650 / jamie.kani@nypd.org)

A good first step is to call NYPD Facilities Management Division (at the number above) and ask about their plans for the lot. Ask if the plans have a timeline. Ask if the NYPD might be willing to sign an interim use agreement through GreenThumb or license the land to a community group directluy. Take notes on your call. Get the name of the person you spoke to. Record your note below so that others who are interested in this lot can benefit from what you learned. We're all organizers together.

(Lt Patrick Malarkey was promoted. He used to be a great help.)

We are the group of gardeners who opened Know Waste Lands just up the street. We are interested in turning this into a youth farm with the youth from BK ROT and others in the neighborhood. If you are interested in helping craft a proposal for this lot, email us at bkrots@gmail.com

We have been in touch with some of the gardeners using the space here and they are supportive of the project.

Michael and Marissa (two folks watching) -

Are you interested in starting a project on this space? Reach out to me at mary@596acres.org or call 718-316-6092 ext 3. Our director Paula reached out the NYPD to see if they have plans for this space, but we haven't heard back yet. Still, it would be great to know if neighbors are interested in getting something going...

Mr. Kani,

I am following up on the email (below) that the director of our organization, Paula Z. Segal at 596 Acres, sent you in January. We'd love to be able to share if your agency has plans for the space at 1291 De Kalb Avenue with Council Member Reynoso and neighbors.

Thanks so much!

Best,

Mr. Kani,

I am working with the Council Member Antonio Reynoso and neighbors of
the City-owned site referenced above, which is in NYPD jurisdiction.
Can you tell me what plans the agency has for these lots? Are these
plans compatible with an interim use by the community?

If the agency has no plans, we will request to have them conveyed to
the Parks Department for use a community open space.

Thank you for all you do and for the prompt reply!

Best,

Paula Z. Segal, Esq.
