Subject: Fwd: Rockaway Labyrinth proposal Funded!
The long awaited and highly anticipated Rockaway Labyrinth has been funded!
Councilman Eric Ulrich announced the funded projects for his 2017 Participatory Budget last night.
The Rockaway community, devastated by Hurricane Sandy has suffered with severe anxiety, depression and a multitude of physical ailments related to the losses.
The Labyrinth is an ancient walking meditation tool that has an abundance of research to demonstrate it’s effectiveness in decreasing stress and these associated disorders.
A brilliant alternative mental health strategy to Build Resilience in Rockaway.
Tell City Council about the potential of NYC Parks land along the boardwalk at a Hearing on December 1 at the Oversight Hearing called "An Examination of Parks Department Properties Currently Inaccessible to the Public." It will be at 1pm at City Hall.
Email organizers@596acres to let us know you are coming and if you want help preparing your testimony!
This will be a chance to get support for creating a permanent labyrinth.
This project has a name: The Rockaway Labyrinth Project. A plan is emerging to create a temporary labyrinth this summer. Contact Nancy to get involved: nancygahles [at] gmail.com
This is a potential site for a community meditation labyrinth conceived-of by a doctor who lives in the area. We just got this note from her:
"I had a very productive meeting with Portia Dyrenforth of NYC Parks. We identified a perfect area adjacent to the boardwalk at 78th St. Setting up a meeting for next week with Dolores Orr, Community Board Chair. Onward and upward ! "
